Student Organizations

The University of Richmond has a variety of student organizations and groups with which students can become involved. Some of these groups are focused on the outdoors, the river, recreation, and/or service work pertaining to the environment. These groups are listed below. Environmental Groups:

  • Green UR- A student-run sustainability board aimed at supporting green initiatives on and off campus by connecting motivated individuals to the resources they need to reach their sustainability goals.

  • Greeks Going Green- A student group focused on unifying the campus community through improving sustainable awareness and promoting practices in Greek organizations. 

  • Food Recovery Network- A student group dedicated to fighting food waste and hunger by recovering perishable food that would otherwise go to waste from their campuses and communities and donating it to those in need.

  • URSA- University of Richmond Sustainability Advocates (URSA) is a peer education program dedicated to promoting sustainability and environmentally responsible behavior in the campus community through engagement with fellow students, primarily in residence halls. Sustainability Advocates (SA) educate all members of campus, from student to staff, about sustainability issues in order  facilitate and institutionalize stewardship on campus.

Service Organizations:

  • Alpha Phi Omega- Alpha Phi Omega is a co-ed, national service fraternity made up of college students gathered together in an organization based on the ideals of leadership, friendship, and service. APO strives to develop leadership, promote friendship, and provide service to humanity.

  • Rotaract Club- Rotaract is a service organization for students interested in community and international service. The Rotaract Club is devoted to service projects on a local level, including volunteer projects at local schools and helping with community based

       service organizations. In addition, Rotaract has a commitment to international projects which aid the greater global

       community.

Outdoor Recreation Clubs:

​

  • Fishing Club- The UR Fishing Club is a recreational club primarily devoted to building a community for fresh and salt water anglers on Richmond's campus. The club encourages students to fish in the Westhampton Lake (which is stocked by the state of VA) and organizes fishing trips to the James River. A bass tournament will be held on campus every fall for charity and environmental clean ups will take place on a semesterly basis.

  • Climbing Club- The UR Climbing Club is a recreational club focused on connecting students with a passion for climbing.

  • Richmond Crew- Richmond Crew is a Championship Sport Club comprised of about 40 members of all experience levels. The team travels and competes in both local and regional regattas, typically attending four or five regattas per semester.
